What brands of denatured alcohol are safe to strip plastic with?

A while ago, I read that features alcohol can be used to safely strip plastic, but sometimes acetone is added, making it unsafe. As denatured alcohol is quite easily accesible to me, and apparently works well, I would like to use it, but I have no idea what is safe to buy and what is not. Please help, I've been trying to strip some regretful paint jobs for months, and simple green and 70% isopropyl aren't cutting it.

What brands of denatured alcohol are safe to strip plastic with?

Methylated spirits and Denatured alcohol are basically different names for the same chemical. Most any Denatured Alcohol sold at Home Depot should be fine, just test it before you throw a huge batch in. My preference is to use Purple Power though. It's a degreaser available at Home Depot or Auto stores. Havent had any issues with plastic or resin yet.

What brands of denatured alcohol are safe to strip plastic with?

They CAN be different names for the same thing, but down here, Methylated spirits is just ethyl alcohol with methyl alcohol ("wood alcohol") added to prevent people drinking it- hence the "methylated" name. It's also undyed. Adding more than you need to raises costs.

"Denatured" alcohol can contain methyl alcohol, but also uses Pyridine, isopropyl alcohol, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone or methyl isobutyl ketone and something called "Denatonium" to make it taste bitter.

Both they and isopropyl alcohol will strip acrylic paint off models with the help of a scrubbing brush. "Dettol" is also mostly isopropyl alcohol (with added pine and eucalyptus scents and oils).
