Need help with my tyranids

Hey guys so I’m new to painting and haven’t learn to many techniques I was just wondering how I would go about doing something like the bone tyranids on nikos workshops instagram
I really like he bone carapace and was wondering how I go about it

I have seen the one little explanation on how someone achieved this but it was so vague I didn’t understand it.

If anyone could give me advice on how to achieve this that would be awesome
Also beside red green and purple what would be a good skin tone for this style carpace. I was thinking a darkish grey with lighter grey highlights

Thanks guys
