Tyranid Hierophant Bio-Titan Build

So i have read quite a few threads about building the Bio titan and decided to pin him. I found a great video online for Nid Week as well. Question is, what size rod do I use to pin the model? I plan on doing the trick where you cut the legs and pin the inside of them, but can't find how big they need to be. Anyone have any experience with this? Also, and/or if I decide to go with the clear rod for the support of the body, would 1/4" be big enough?

I think 1/4" is going to get way too big towards the bottom of the front walking legs. Those blades are pretty thin and the biggest problem when it comes to bending under the weight of the model.

Tyranid Hierophant Bio-Titan Build

I don't know but 1/4" sounds way overkill to me, you probably won't be able to cold bend that by hand to follow the shape of the leg. I would have thought 2 to 3mm, but that's just a guess. Go to a hobby store that carries music wire in different sizes and just have a look and feel to get an idea how stiff different sizes are over the length of a leg (something that might feel floppy in 72" length might be fine in an 8" length). It doesn't need to be completely stiff, just strong enough to not to go past basic elastic deformation under the weight of the model.

But yeah, I dunno, would have guessed 2 to 3mm.

Those blades are pretty thin. I found your old thread on here about building one. Did you end up doing the pins or the Clear rod support? What about the front blades?

Here is the video of the build. He doesn't pin though, but its still helpful.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlO46OttB34
