Good CA solvents

Hey folks

So, I was putting together a squad of Wracks, and I decided to magnetize them so that the Acothyst has both arms magnetized and two wracks have their gun arm magnetized so I could freely swap out special weapons on them. But, I did a dumb on the gun arms. I started out by magnetizing one gun for each of them, and like an idiot, it didn't occur to me to use the same gun for all at first to make sure they had the same polarity across every model, with the end result being that I've got two guns that are interchangeable between two of the models, and a third model and third gun that have the exact polarity.

So, since I obviously can't just snap the magnet out like I might with a misglued arm, I'm wondering what plastic safe solvents y'all use for unbonding CA glue, both household solvents and specific product, and what kind of success you've had with them.

You could try putting them in the freezer for a bit, should make the superglue very brittle. Just drill around the magnet so you can hook something behind the magnet then just prise it out.

There aren't really any solvent debonders that won't hurt the plastic, unfortunately. Your best bet is to freeze/thaw it and try to weaken the bond that way (freezing sets up microfractures inside the bond - but it also makes the plastic brittle, so thaw the pieces before attempting to remove magnets).

It may take several goes (freze/thaw) to weaken the glue bond enough.

If it was metal, I'd suggest acetone.

Maybe not a proper solvent, but I have found that Dettol-striping usually unglues (or at least weakens a lot) CA bonds, and it does not harm plastic.

Might by harder if the magnets are countersunk tightly, though, as it would be harder for the Dettol to reach the glued spots, but maybe worth a try if the freezer path does not work.

I actually ended up combining a bit of zap debonder with the suggestion of drilling alongside it to get something behind and pry it out. Doesn't have perfect drill holes anymore, but worked well enough and I was able to fix it.

Same effects, none of the decomposing eucalypt forest stench. Sure, it may seem novel and "foresty" to some places, but it's a predominant stink around here and I got over it decades ago.
