Shattered Ritual bases painting advice

Hi,

Just like in the title I'd love to get some advice to paint these gorgeous bases (http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=79_30_148).

The attached example is a good idea of what I'd love to be able to recreate but I'm really overwhelmed by the amount of available colors. If someone has an advice on that it's really appreciated!

Re:Shattered Ritual bases painting advice

I've painted these - though not that colour - for my son's DE army, they're really easy to paint.

Make sure you wash them first, as they are resin, to get rid of any mold release agent.

Looking at the pic, I'd say they probably just used a few colours really. You could prime white here - or grey, though I'd say white would be easier. I'd probably use an off white instead of a true white on the 'stone', agrax or nuln (depends whether you want to be more brown or black in recesses). Drybrush over it with your true white. I'm not sure what the turquoise is in the recesses, but you could probably duplicate it with lahmian medium and sotek (making more of a glaze). Just carefully paint it into the recesses. Alternatively, you could use a wash, or even a mix of a couple, but afaik, GW doesn't have any that are quite that colour. I would maybe look at adding Biel-Tan and the blue (who's name escapes me at the moment) together, and see if you like the look.

I think you could get close to that red with either Mephiston base, washed with agrax, or by going to the Martian ironcrust (probably have to drybrush it on, not 100% sure as I've not used it myself.

Anyway that's how I'd try to go about it, can always experiment and see how it goes ^_^ good luck!

I always struggle with all the possibilities ^^. I had no idea you were supposed to wash Resin so that's great to know! Can you strip resin the same way you strip plastic? With little bath in simple green and toothbrush action?
