Burn damage tutorial?

Hi,

I tried to remove some excess plastic glue on a vehicle and I made quite a mess and it looks like it's burnt on that spot. So I'd like to turn this into battle damage and I'm looking for a good tutorial to do that and make it look like it took a plasma shot or something. Could you please recommend one?
