				<title>IG Rough Riders</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ It might be my perception and not the truth but it seems to me that Rough Riders are considered less than great troops.  However, as I consider getting my guard up to a brigade, and looking at the fast attack options I find that I really like the idea of them (but have not used or seen them used)...so thought I would start a discussion about them.<br /> <br /> My prefered unit would be a 5 man squad w/two plasma guns and the sgt having a plasma pistol<br /> <br /> PRO<br /> <li>Relatively cheap, 50 points base cost, tied for second cheapest option for fast attack (Tied with armored sentinel, beat by Scout Sentinel).  Fully kitted unit of 5 is 80 points...my preferred unit is 65 points<br /> </li><br /> <li>Limited Deep strike</li><br /> <li>2 wounds each, movement 10</li><br /> <li>14 attacks:  4x +2 S, d3 damage (on charge); x10 s3 d1 attacks</li><br /> <br /> Cons<br /> <li>T3, 5+ save</li><br /> <li>No orders</li><br /> <br /> To me the pro's outweig the con's...but would like expert opinionss<br /> ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Rough Riders are perfectly fine models.<br /> <br /> Their only real con is being placed in the Imperial faction, which has more/better troop choices valuewise.<br /> <br /> This doesn't make them "bad".<br /> <br /> Like everything <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(69);'>IG</span>, they're great for the prices.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ The rule of cool says yes.<br /> <br /> The rule of the game says they'll die super duper easy...but as you said they're cheap and fun.  I say go with it.  Guard, within their own ranks, don't have access to a ton of deepstrike (outflanking) units, so why not add some.  I mean three squads is less than 200 points, so go for it.  I would do some Imperial Guard with Rough Riders if anyone made decent models.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Scout Sentinels are better for area denial but I tend to bring Rough Riders just for the fun factor. They can do work in ITC or maelstrom as far as grabbing objectives as well.<br /> <br /> The 2 wounds and weapon options do allow them to bully shooting units while tarpitting even <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(95);'>MEQs</span> although you may need to be above minimum size to do that reliably and effectively. <br /> <br /> I find that players tend to overreact to units they are not familiar with or assume that they are some <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(280);'>OP</span> secret tech so you can play with your opponent a bit that way as well.]]></description>

Most, but not all, doctrines specify <b>INFANTRY</b> or <b>VEHICLE</b> units, but the Cadian, Vostroyan and storm trooper doctrines all give some/all of their benefit to all units with the doctrine rule.]]></description>

They all buff shooting on a melee-focused unit, with the Cadian doctrine adding insult to injury by only working if you don't move with a unit which exists to move fast. Obviously you take the buff you happen to be running one of those doctrines, but it isn't worth making detachment changes just to get one.<br /> <br /> (And if you're taking a detachment to buff them you're taking <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(312);'>DKoK</span> and death riders anyway.)]]></description>
