New Death Guard models squad markings

Hey guys!
I plan on running three squads of the new plague marines models for a tournament in a while and need a way to mark their squads. They are going to be moving around a few characters so they will probably overlap.

The new models are from the big split box, one box of the actual plague marines, some easy build ones and some kit bashed ones. Since most of the guys are single poses or a choice of just a few poses, there really isn't a way to swap shoulder pads easily. Anyone else run into this with the new Death Guard?

If I was doing it, I'd model the bases so each squad had its own theme. I've done with before with a Khorne army, using tau bits on one, marine on another, etc. Works real well (IMO), as the khorne berzerkers look much alike you could tell which units was which. I took a little extra time on the champion bases so that they stand out a little also. Should work easier now that they are on the 32mm bases instead of the 25mm bases.

I was considering doing themed bases for my squads too but does it look odd having groups of dudes in pockets of different bits?

No idea what color scheme you use, but you could use differently colored rot on the top of the models to mark squads. Make much of the model, especially the lower parts that are harder to see on the tabletop, your normal color scheme so the army looks uniform, and then give the top (for easy visibility) different hues. White, green and brown, for instance. Subtle enough that it doesn't interfere with the overall look but visible enough so you can tell squads apart.

Re:New Death Guard models squad markings

Having painted a lot of plague marines I can tell you there is no consistent shoulder pad design or armor design as they are all a mish mash of armor types, horns and mutations with various iconography. If I wanted to paint them up as different squads I would paint an enitre panel of the squad in a certain color. For example, if you are using the traditional GW green scheme, painting the helmets of a squad in bone white, black or green might be a good way to denote that squad.

A more subtle way may be to draw stripes across the forearm armor panels. First squad gets one, second squad gets two etc.
