Commission painting... just the edge highlights?

I suck at edge highlighting. Has anyone ever heard of commission artists taking on an already painted army to just finish up the highlights and fine details? Is this even worth it for a commission painter to take on such a task & how much would it cost?

I don't imagine it'd be worth it to any commission painters to take on a job like that. My friend is one and he for example hates when the client has built the model first but will take on projects like that, but it's kinda pushing it. I think in general people just want to go start to finish with a commission rather than touch ups.

Maybe you'd be better off looking at drybrushing or using more shades to work the model down from a lighter colour so you don't need them?

no, because even the masters cannot make the model look great if the model itself was ill prepared(ex:uncleaned mold lines) or under par basecoated(exverflow edges, thick paint). The work is a waste of time for most commission artists and hard to value for their work.

All the work up to that point is what makes the edge highlighting easy or difficult.

So I doubt they'd really want to do it, and if they did, they'd be likely to charge near to full paint job prices.

Rik

You should actually talk to a painter in your local area and have them look at what you already have painted to decide if it's worth their time, asking here with no pictures won't help much. If your paintjobs are crap, there's little they can do to salvage without heavy reworks, but if you blocked in the colors without gooping on the paint then it actually may not be that much work and some painters enjoy the highlighting process much more than the drudgery of basecoating.

James Bell is now a regional manager for GW US and a golden deamon winner, but before that he spent years as a local comission painter. He hired a guy just to simply block in the main base colors for his commisions so he could concentrate only on the shadows and highlights. The guy he hired wasn't all that great at painting but the basecoats were even and regular and it saved James quite a lot of time on his commisions, so depending on what yours are like and what you want then it may still be very much worth a painter's time.
