Druchii Violet on a black base coat effect?

Hey everyone

At the moment I am planning my Harlequin color scheme and I want to go for a pink/purple effect. I have been thinking to maker the black look a bit nicer I could apply a shade of Druchii Violet all over or in certain areas however I have no idea if this will have any impact on the color.

So if anyone could help me out here it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I recently tried a blue wash on black hair. After three coats, there is a tiny bit of color. When light hits it directly, the reflection has a slight blue tint to it. That's the overall effect I was going for, but it's not nearly as strong as I was hoping for. And the hair is very textured (so there was a lot of wash in the recesses).
If you're talking about Harlequin clothes (legs/arms), I suspect there isn't enough texture to produce any effect with a wash. You could try a basecoat of black + dark purple to have a slight purple tint, but it won't create any shadows by itself.

This techniques are excellent for creating changing tone in clothing.

You're never going to get much from washing black, start with a dark version of whatever colour you want, in this case purple, and or it down to black. Whether that be by layering, washing or glazing is up to you.

Druchii Violet on a black base coat effect?

I'll echo the others - washing over black will generally not get a great result. I would suggest mixing a little bit of a dark grey in with the black to bring it up by a shade before painting. I never use "true" black on a model unless it's intended to look unnatural (so I use it for Daemon eyes, but that's more or less it).

Washing purple over a very dark grey will deepen the tone, make it a little glossy, and will give a hint of purple when the light's right. It's a subtle, but noticeable, effect.
