Sometimes its said the demons are mindless puppets of the Gods, others say some demons have there own personalities.

Also are there demons not affiliated with the Gods?

I am told the warp makes demons/gods from peoples beliefs and emoitions, so does that mean that the warp also produces random monsters like the boogie man who have no affiliation.

As for deamons don't forget many references to them are not lore but reports written by Imperial archivists and thus might be inaccurate or based only on observations or could even be heavily bias due to them working for the Imperium of Man.

Some Deamons are certainly quite mindless, whilst others clearly have their own goals and agendas, though how far outside of the gods control they are I suspect varies a lot. Some might be almost totally independent until one of the Gods pays attention to it and wants it to do something specific; and that might just mean that the God toys with it by twisting what's around the deamon to influence its choices rather than controlling it direct. Others are less thinking by intent - the Beasts of Nurgle are basically giant labradors who just want to run up to everyone and give them a nice lick, a hug and pass on the glorious wonders of infection and pestience that Pappa Nurgle has blessed them with. Sure in doing so their licks rot their subject; their claws and arms tear their opponent apart etc..,

In 40k daemon codex Immaterium and Materium are interconnected, think of them as two liquids that are side by side and mixing in the center. Nature of the Warp is so that changes in material universe tend to create movement or ripples in it. Minds of living things are so complicated things that, pound for pound, they tend to create far more movements than, say, a star(exept pariahs, who do the opposite).

So, everything you think and feel appears in the Warp. Galaxys worth of beings feeling and thinking creates entire currents, like in an ocean, which is how FTL is supposed to work for Imperium, with cruising on the "warp currents" like in the age of sails, which limits humanitys ability to travel. Of course writes tend to forget or contradict this and often warpdrive is just hyperdrive through hell.

Gods are basically similar natured thougths and emotions that have coalesced together in to a whirlpool with a sentiense of some sort. Big Four being made of basic emotions, which being the most common make them the strongest of the "gods", with daemons being their "fingers", some longer some shorter. In addition to them there are countless other daemon-like things in the Warp, and then there are the creatures that are native to the Warp like Enslavers and Remora.

Of course this is all just in universe conjecture, like all 40k lore, sadly newer publications tend do a lot worse job at conveying it as such, ye olden days fluff in the codexes was mosly told through in-universe material, which was a lot cooler.

In Fantasy/AoS Realms of Chaos is just another reality, like something out of Planescape or alike. Daemons in it are more just demons, and I have no idea how they come to being.

Oh and the reason why Chaos is so nasty is partly because any emotion taken to its utmost extreme is harmful, and a being made of nothing but one emotion ain't very sane on a human standard. The Chaos gods reflect certain extremes of personality or emotion, and thus the daemons they spin off from themselves are drawn from that restricted range. A daemon of Khorne might think independently for example or even turn on Khorne, such as Skarbrand, but they will always be violent and rage filled, as that is the pool of energy and emotion their being was created from. Different daemons represent different urges and feelings.
