Book related models

So I've seen a model kit that shows a hero and his girl on top of a base that is a book, presumably a fairly tale.
I think that it looks excelent, and I want to try to do something similar, and I just so happen to have most of the materials needed for the book base. The idea is to have an open book as a base, and to put a model or scene that represents the start of the book on the first page (Bilbo leaving the shire with a bag on his back for example) and a model or scene that represents its ending on the last page (Bilbo comming back with a wagon full of loot). It could be any book at all, be it snow white or war and peace. I would very much apreciate your reccomendations for models/books that could work together. Books set in historical periods may work best for this. Idealy they would be 54-120mm scale.

Spoiler:

Yeah I know two pinup girls would fit the bill perfectly, with the one on the end having a generous gloss coat, but I don't want to go that route
