Modelling in a new age of 3D printing

Hi there!

I thought I would share my tinkering with 3D printing in the Hobby world.
I am not sure yet of the content of this blog, but be prepared for mixing CAD & 3D printing with classic modelling and sculpting (and painting).

Re:Modelling in a new age of 3D printing

So to start with, why not discuss modelling some Squat ?

A few month ago, I decided to convert a miniature for the Squat bounty hunter for Necromunda to celebrate that these strain of abhumans are not extinct.

In case you don't know what I am talking about, see https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/04/27/27-apr-new-recruits-for-underhive/ on Warhammer Community.

The idea started sprouting when I saw this wonderful dwarf miniature made by Valendar and available here on Thingiverse https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3006182:

So I decided to 3D print it and make great use of sculpting putty to make it look more like this:

The Valendar's model has a hammer, and a squat anatomy (including a beard), but it's lacking everything else (especially a futuristic, grim dark look).

The good thing is the Valendar's mini is bare chested, so it's easy to sculpt some padded armour with putty.
I chose to give him a 3rd ed Cadian helmet rather than a RT era one but otherwise, I took the above picture as an inspiration.

Then comes the futuristic part.
I added a few wires to the hammer to give it some "Power", added shoulder pads, a pouch and a backpack.
I also grew his beard a little and, to fill his fist, added a good old severed head. He's supposed to be a bounty hunter after all, and he needs to prove the kill to claim the bounty

The back pack is a SM heavy weapon backpack, printed at smaller scale, and wrapped with putty.

Once undercoated, it's easier to spot printing imperfections and trim them with an exacto knife:

So, Grendl is almost finished! Here is the result:

I might add a cable running from the backpack to the power hammer but otherwise I'm happy with the result

Re:Modelling in the age of 3D printing

It's time for the next project!
Let's stay into Necromunda and Abhumans and Bounty hunters. Why not convert Gor Half Horn ?
For reference, Gor is a Beastman bounty hunter from the underhive:

So I found an interesting Minotaur model on Thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3185360). Pefect base for Gor.

Fortunately, I found a beastman's head that will be a perfect swap for Gor (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3019291).
.

To be continued...
