ad mech colour scheme

Hi dakkadakka

I'm looking for some advice with my ad mech colour scheme. I want to make an allied admech and deathwatch force. The fluff is that the tech priest is a sort of xenos tech archaeologist, and he's got the deathwatch around just in case he awakens some sort ancient evil.

The basing would be a desert wasteland with perhaps some eldar ruins on the larger bases.

I like the basing seen here (found this on instagram, think its great)

I think the base around Cawl is what I'm after. Anyone know how to get this effect?

The next thing is my colour scheme for the admech, I'm thinking a bone/off white is what im after. I'm looking to get stuck in to some battle damage so hopefully the off white will make this show up more. I've also recently got in to airbrushing so keen to use that on the cloaks/vehicles.

Lastly i have a bad habit of making my schemes way to complex and never finishing. I also have less hobby times these days, so looking for a quick effective scheme that will look good on the table top. I'm also trying to limit myself to 3 main colours including the base. I'm mainly going to dry brush and air brush.

So here is my first go. The metal is leadbelcher - agrax - necron - and then some typhus. The cloak is zandri - ushabti - screaming skull. The base was martian ironcrust - agrax - ryza - bone dry brush.

So what are your thoughts? Anyway to make this pop more? I'm still working on the airbrushing, i need to work on the getting the highlights finer. I'm going to try another test mini with rakarth/pallid one flesh and will see how i go?

Thanks for the help!

I don't know if base is not to bright for this color scheme. I would go for some darker base like in the picture you attached with dark brown rant. For me first thing I noticed was not mini but nice base ;D

Color scheme looks solid - but If for me I would try to add one additional brighter color (pipes? light on backpack? slit in helm?) to get something eye catching and to add some contrast.

Perhaps a darker brown, like a warm chocolate, around the base lip?. Could tone down the orange and slightly tie in with the robes. Kinda bring the two pieces together.

A lot of AdMech models have linings and trim that are a secondary color. Is yours white? My worry is that if you're doing bone on white, the model will lack contrast. I also noticed blotches on your metal. Are you shading in spots? I have found that bright metallics combined with an aggressive wash really helps pull off the AdMech look.

I do a bright Skitarii color scheme myself. My Skitarii are VMC Deep Blue with a highlight of VMC Sky Blue, some VGC Blue Wash mixed with VMC Deep Blue for recesses, and a secondary color of VMC Bright Orange. No wash on the robes to make them pop; I went with Martian soil because it provides even further contrast. The metallics are VMC SIlver with VMC Brass trim and Agrax Earthshade (or double Seraphim Sepia for gold-on-brass or silver-on-steel).

Some photos:
