Citadel Dry Paints

I was wondering

1) Do the Citadel Dry Paints, dry in the pot faster than normal citadel paints?
2) Is there an analog for the citadel dry paints in another range? I feel like citadel paints are overcosted, and tend to dry out too quickly due to the pots.

Citadel Dry Paints

They are used for edge highlights, I don’t find them drying out faster than the layer or base type of paints, you can just add drops of acrylic medium and bottled/distilled water to bring the pot back to life.

Re:Citadel Dry Paints

I think it depends how you'll use them. If you will paint straight from the pot, they'll dry definitely faster. Dry paints are thicker than normal ones - for me they're perfect for drybrushing

Citadel Dry Paints

Dry paints arent worth it. I bought necron silver or whatever its called about 4 years ago and used it once. theyre too dry/solid. the paint still needs to have some liquidity when drybrushing. just use regular paints.

Citadel Dry Paints

I use Necron compound pretty often, but YMMV. The Dry range vary wildly in consistency though. Some are just like a very thick paint and some or just like a glob of paint-like material that you could never load onto a normal brush but have to stab it with your drybrush to break chunks out of.

The thing is that they are usually very light shades that you can't find an equivalent in the citadel range outside of the Edge paints which I would probably suggest instead of the Dry ones. You can edge highlight with the Edge paints and you can drybrush with them just as well as any normal paint. You cannot Edge highlight or paint anything normally with the Dry range though.

Citadel Dry Paints

They do dry out much faster. I bought a closing hobby shops entire set up (3-8 of every citadel paint). Nearly all drys were useless, they hadn't been on the market more than maybe 12-18 months at this stage.

Citadel Dry Paints

Going against the grain here, but I have a pot of Skink Blue for the top drybrush on my tyranids and it's great.

It is like a globby ball, I think you could almost take it out of the pot in once peice. Just dab your drydrush and then wipe your brush on to some paper to get most of the paint off.

Doesn't give me a chalky effect, but I guess it does vastly depend on colour scheme etc. I am using it as a second lighter drybrush over Electric Blue (Vallejo).
