Advice needed (adding zenital after painting)

Having finally gotten started on my AT stuff the other week ive held a fairly good pace (for me at least) and finished up overall painting of my maniple this weekend.
Not having skills, patience or imagination I opted to simply follow Duncans guide on WarhammerTV and have an end result im pretty happy with. (Legio Gryphonicus)
Still remains to do details and decals and finally weathering and such.

However, in hindsight I would like some strong highlighting to really make the scale of things come around. Right now they look like they are fully lighted from all around, and im thinking that with the airbrush I might be able to add shadows on the underside and lighting the topside of the models.
I have done some zenital highlighting previously but always prior to adding base colors.

Is this even possible or will I just destroy my models?
If possible, should I use shades or paints for the matter?

So any insight or advice on this is very much appreciated!

You can airbrush with a steady hand, however personally I'd brush your highlights up and your shadows down. I'm not sure the colours you're using, but you want darker glazes of that colour, and drag them down into your shadows, making sure to feather the contours in. You can deepest highlight to black if you want. Then do the same but upwards, with a lighter shade for your highlights. Maybe post some photos so we ca. See what you're working with.

Re:Advice needed (adding zenital after painting)

Tried my best getting a decent shot.
Ive once tried shooting Nuln Oil through my airbrush and found that it worked more to tone down or darken whatever I sprayed it on then to pool in recesses etc. Probably because I shot it very thin and slow. So I thought that maybe I can use it to that effect to give this model a zenital lighting effect post painting? Or at least the shadow half of it, then use a thin lighter yellow and grey for the top parts.

Advice needed (adding zenital after painting)

You can definitely use an airbrush to zenith that. Probably easier than brush blending anyway. Get a light yellow and spray it downwards onto the upper surfaces. Then lighten with white and repeat but in a smaller area. Keep increasing the white until you have the highlight effect you want

Depends on how stark you want the highlight. Try with the bone then you can always add the white later
