Will be finishing it off with actual gemstone chips, Amethyst and rose quartz etc etc. I wanted to get the "base" part of that right so I was thinking astrogranite debris and then paint it up gold? Maybe add in some beads with various textures to look like urns etc?

So Rhinox hide and Balthasar gold 1:1, wash it orange and then go to town drybrushing it with various golds to give the impression that he's in a room full of treasure.

You might have some success with a washing it with some black and calling it done?
