Resin and Melting Points

We’ve all heard the horror stories re: Citadel Finecast resin melting on hot days in, say, Australia, but I was wondering if anybody had any more info regarding Forgeworld’s resin. I’ll be spending some time very near the USA-Mexico border where the temperature in July/ August is routinely above 100 Fahrenheit (37 C) sometimes as high as 108 (42 C) and am trying to figure out if I should take special precautions with my Forgeworld stuff—at the very least I should be careful with leaving them in a hot car. Anybody have any more info or personal experience with resin in very hot regions?

Resin and Melting Points

When and where? I'm going to naval air base el centro at the end of August. To be fair I think it would need to be significantly hotter to actually melt cast resin. The heat might be enough to make it more pliable, but I don't think it will be melting down into a pile of liquid resin. I'm unsure about taking my paints as I'm not sure about them drying out too quickly? I figure if I've got an air conditioned room it will probably be fine.

Re:Resin and Melting Points

Having worked in the desert for many a year...yes you should absolutely be cautious. If you're not storing it in an A/C'ed dwelling, reconsider taking it. In the car? Not a chance in hell. Car temps get upwards of 160 easily.

Now...in a trunk, out of sight, perhaps in a foam container you might escape some of the issues, but I'd strongly argue against it. Keep in mind your resin isn't going to melt into a puddle...but weapons, ankles, thin joints, wings, etc. could also possibly droop/fall over/become ruined.

If you have a normal house/apartment with any A/C at all it won't be an issue. If you're storing them in an outdoor shed, a garage, or a car - forget about it.

Re:Resin and Melting Points

I'm just pointing out the extremes. Having parked in a gravel lot for 12 hours on shift and coming back to my car....seat belts can actually burn you. I burned through a number of electronic devices (MP3 players, some cheaper GPS, etc.) just from sitting in a car for that long in 100+ degree heat. Some fancy computers we installed in our patrol vehicles all burned out within a week or two (from heat and being rattled to pieces). If you mean just transporting stuff to/from you'll be fine, just keep the car A/C. My only real concern would be if you're planning on storing anything in the car for prolonged periods.

Can you buy, own, and build resin in those places? Of course, just don't let it sit in a baking car for 10+ hours.

Even in the trunk/boot of the car. Best bet is to go from a to b with them in the vehicle and do not leave them in. We mostly played at night so that mitigated it somewhat but still be cautious.

Re:Resin and Melting Points

I am a desert dweller in the American west as well. As most stated above, the danger is leaving them in the car/trunk. Also, for QEA, you do need to take the dry heat into account. Primer distances, paint mixes etc will be influenced (I suspect you recognise this and can deal, but thought I'd point it out). I really need to time my priming steps for certain days/mornings.

I admit it was fun spraying stuff in Phoenix only for it to be dry within about 12 seconds of applying the paint...

Yeah, I've had GW bases warp in a hot car (dropped a black base on the black floormat and couldn't find it), so I'm confident that you would get warping on resin.
