				<description><![CDATA[ Hey I'm planning on making my own marine chapter and I wonder.  Can I make my own characters?  Do I have to use <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(50);'>GW</span>'s characters or can I make my own out of bits?<br /> <br /> Meaning like a Calgar character.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Yes, but they will not be accepted in matched play without your opponents consent (and never in tournaments, essentially).  So this depends entirely on your gaming group and your opponents - also how good you are at writing rules.<br /> <br /> Generally speaking (as a rules/game designer), almost 85% of custom stuff I see drawn up for <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(3);'>40K</span> is overpowered nonsense.  If you can create a reasonable and not-overpowered custom character, most people would be fine allowing you to run it.  You should start with a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(50);'>GW</span> profile as a basis (use the stat-line from Calgar but then change his weapons and some of his special rules, etc.).  Then add 10-15 points onto the cost as a tax for creating your character.<br /> <br /> An interesting character would also have some penalties along with the bonuses, but even <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(50);'>GW</span> doesn't bother with that because...time?]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ What you can do is paint your guys however you want and kitbash characters however you want and then make them counts as an official chapter and use their rules. <br /> <br /> I.E. play as Black Templar and use all the Black Templar rules but make your own models for their named characters and just say fluff wise they are your own dudes. ]]></description>

I want to make my marine chapter a different color and have my own figures be Vulkan or Calgar etc.  I'm not trying to make my own rules.]]></description>
