Storm Raven Gunship... Flesh Tearers

So after the sheer joy of last week’s Storm Talon Gunship I decided to go one better and do its big cousin in the form of a mighty Storm Raven.

I’ve completed one of these models previously for my Crimson Fists army and as such I am well aware of what a potent unit the Storm Raven is on the tabletop.

...However I had forgotten what a huge model this actually is (especially when compared to the much smaller Storm Talon). It really is quite a substantial metal beast.

I decided to load it up with as many guns as possible in order to increase its overall lethality on the battlefield. Twin plasma cannons, Storm Strike missiles, Typhoon Missile launchers and hurricane bolters should put down most units in the game quite swiftly.

Modelling-wise this was an absolute treat to paint, I really enjoyed both the assembly and the painting stages of this project. I also took great pains to ensure that the weathering was just right.

Overall I am really pleased with how this model has come out. I think the red and black colour scheme is particularly striking and suits the angles and shape of the model.

I can’t wait to use this absolute monster to deliver Gabriel Seth and his favoured retinue deep into the heart of the enemy.

There’s a fair bit more hobby related goodness on my blog at:

http://classicastartes.blogspot.com/2019/09/blog-post.html?m=1

Looks pretty good. I think what it's missing though are much large Fleshtearers emblems on the wings. I imagine you're operating within the confines of the decal sheet but it needs some stronger contrast to really pop on the wings.

Cheers mate. I appreciate the feedback, but I disagree... I think overly large emblems detract from models and tend to look unrealistic (as far as that term can be used for the 40k universe).

For example this image of a modern Eurofighter from the Luftwaffe shows the comparative size of their iconography:

Nice work on this. I agree on the way the black and red seem to highlight the angles and shapes of this model. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers Guys. I’m really happy with this piece. Just used it in a game and it was absolutely awesome... though a little fragile thanks to my opponent firing absolutely everything he could at it in turn one!!

I really like it but the weathering I feel could do with a bit of direction to it. Currently the weathering is around the edges, which is fine, but as this is a flyer, it would make sense to have scores and scratches in the direction of where the model is flying, like flying through debris.
