macragge base paint over macragge blue spray different texture

Hello

So I’ve just painted macragge base paint over macragge blue spray and the texture looks different is that normal.

I have watered it down so no problems with the thin coats.

Is it the same with Chaos Black spray and Abaddon Black where one has a Matt finish and the over etc.

Should I just start priming in white and put my macragge blue base paint over it?

Black spray and the black brush on paint have different finishes. I don't use GW rattle cans anymore other than leadbelcher for metal exoskeletons until I find a suitable replacement, they're overpriced and they don't really save time with different finishes almost nullifying the color matching advantage.

Personally speaking, you shouldn't be using the spray as your basecoat, it provides a layer for other paints to stick to. You will still need to paint a basecoat on, which is easier when using a similar colour as the brush paint's opacity will be negated somewhat.

I wouldn't prime in white, go for a neutral grey.

If you're going to prime Ultramarines in white and you're struggling with paint techniques you may just try the GW contrast paints. The go on like thicker inks, just don't overload your brush.

Thanks for all the reply’s I’ll think about contrast as a last resort.

I’ve just ordered some vallejo thinner medium.

It’s in a dropper bottle so should be easy to use.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Tyranid Horde wrote:
Personally speaking, you shouldn't be using the spray as your basecoat, it provides a layer for other paints to stick to.
