Pla-plate rhino - can it be done? Should it be done?

Hi all! So, out here in Japan, my specific kind of plastic crack is rare and expensive. However, other kinds aren't, and I've just had a shipment of bits from back home, including a fair few rhino chassis leftovers. As part of a necromunda project, I trapped some reasonable thick pla-plate, but have so far used very little.

Is there an easy-to-follow way of making this into the body of a rhino? Given the shape, I think it mostly ought to be pretty simple, up until the treads, no?

If anyone has tried this before, or knows a way of scratch building a rhino like this - ideally with a guide, because I am lethally stupid, please lemme know!!!

Pla-plate rhino - can it be done? Should it be done?

I have scratch built several tanks, though not a Rhino specifically. As you have surmised, the running gear is the primary problem. Hull panels are easy to make for the chunky GW style designs, but track links and road wheels are more of a hassle. One way to get around this is incorporating pieces from toys or model kits to the design. For example, this tank which I built several years ago.

It uses spare tracks and rear sprockets taken from a kit of a Russian KV-2 that I built some time ago and incorporates a lot of other detail parts from elsewhere, such as the turret cupola, some tools and a few pieces of photoetch.

For practical advice, I suggest investing in a steel ruler and a good utility knife for cutting sheet styrene with (should work decently well up to about 1.5mm or so). When assembling things from flat panels, you want to get them cut as neatly and accurately as possible. A small carpenter's square or some other way to get clean 90-degree cuts is also a lifesaver.

Tbh I think I have seen tank treads being sold at my local model shop, but I think they might be a little large. If I remember right, I was thinking about using them to replace the hover bits on the new admech transport

Model kit parts are good, but toy tanks are often the best, since they're simpler and built to withstand rough play. Plus they're often chunky and chibi and so aesthetically, a closer fit to GW style. Scale models of historical tanks, even in 1/35 scale, tend to have delicate pieces that look out of scale and odd compared to GW minis.
