How to practice colour schemes

Hi,

I just painted up some DW terminators and although they looked ok they didn’t look how I wanted them to look, more dusty than bone white. Rather than go through a cycle of painting and striping minis until I get the layers and washes etc the way I want them I wondered if there was a simple way of experimenting without doing the above.

I thought about using the excess plastic from the kits, anyone done that?

Go on ebay for super cheap wrecks or get some cheap push fit models to practice on. You can either bin them afterward or keep them as squad filler or just do 1 strip at the end and redo when you have sorted the scheme you like.

How to practice colour schemes

Really the only way to do it is to paint models. I don't think stripping them over and over is a good plan at all.
Just buy some cheapo models from ebay, or the easy-build Marines as Flinty suggests. Take your time and experiment with different techniques.
Then when you have a technique that achieves the scheme you want, paint your models

-

Buy some old metal termi's off Ebay, then you can paint and strip to you hearts content, without worrying that it will melt.

I use an old armless corvus marine for testing colours and shades over certain bases
