Really, just keep doing what you're doing. The canopy is going to be a rare part to find as a separate bit because how often do people use the canopy, but not the rest of the kit.

Is it a single piece, or is it and the canopy frame two separate pieces? Another option is to hit up the toy store and find a really cheap sci-fi or military plane with a similar sized cockpit you could break off and use....after buying the toy of course.
