Airbrushing Citadel paints

Hey all

Couple of what feel like noob questions regarding airbrushing Citadel paints.

1. I don't understand the "layer system" in relation to airbrushing. It's probably just me being dense, but for arguments sake, would airbrushing Warpstone Glow, over Waagh Flesh that has been shaded with Nuln Oil, give the same result as painting it with a brush?

2. Kind of relates to #1, because I've been having a hell of a time using Citadel paints in airbrush.

I've had a couple of successes, but mostly I fail at getting the paints thinned right, leading to the paint spitting, or puddling, and generally clogging up the 0.3 nozzle on my airbrush.

Some of the Air range are too thick out of the bottle. I can't seem to thin Layer or Base paints very well either. It seems Vallejo Airbrush Thinner is the recommended thinner, but does anyone here have a magic ratio of thinner to paint when it comes to Air, Layer and Base?

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

RE the clogging,

What pressure are you using?

I use Citadel air Ironbreaker with a brush and it always needs a good mix it just seems to seperate just by looking at it.

The regulator on my compressor is set at 30, and it dips down to about 25 when I push the trigger for air.

I know it's the paints because I don't tend to get the same problem, or as much, when using Vallejo Model Air. And I only use water based acrylics through this particular airbrush.
