What I am not sure of is the psychic disciplines and strategies I can utilize and the relics.

Are there CSM strategies I have access to as well?

Whichever character is warlord will get a free relic from their book, both books have a stratagem for taking more relics however so it's possible to get extra from either book.

The warlord traits are generated from the book the warlord is from.
