magnet size

Trying to find a magnet size guide to help me figure out what size magnets to use for a couple different armies.

I thought I remember seeing one posted on Dakka but I can't find it. MiniWarGaming has one but it is incomplete.

Anyone know where I could find something like this? I am trying to magnetize IG, Necron, and Nids and would like to know what size magnets to order.

magnet size

Depending on what units you’re magnetising. Normal “troops” I got with 2x2mm and N50 strength. On my Daemon engines I have used 4x2mm. On my Knight I have 5x2 for his weapons and a pinning rod on torso for connect to legs for switching weapons and easy transport.

N50 or N48 magnets is what you want. Others will be too strong or too weak.
3x2mm and a small ball of green stuff if you’re want your troops to stick on a metallic plate for transport works wonders.
Anything else you ask and I’ve try too answer. Sorry but can’t say the size in inches.

Edit:
All my magnets are round. When dealing with magnets have a metal plate and sticking your magnets and models to as they are so small and easy for everywhere if not careful. Recommend is to magnetizing models first all with same magnetic pole at same direction then magnetizing weapons or arms. It so easy too get them at wrong directions so they pull away instead of having the attraction so be careful!

depends on what you want; that said I can offer a couple suggestions: N35 is just fine for magnet strength, N50 is stronger but not necessary and more expensive. Always get the 1mm in depth, its more flexible as you can glue 2 or more together. Ring type magnets are good for mostly resin areas that require lots of strength, like FW knight arm and torso areas, you can use magnet with pinning together.

Typically you want 2mm to 5mm wide x 1mm deep, Ring type I use 3mm x 1mm with 1mm center hole. Always mark one side of magnets for polarity, triple check before gluing it in.

I try to leave the magnets together with a piece of thin plastic film between them while gluing. It keeps the contact faces of the magnets free from glue or GS and also helps with alignment. Agreed on all the sizes mentioned above... I probably use 1x3mm and 2x3mm the most on infantry and small vehicles. I store mine on a metal ruler... they are dangerous if swallowed, so keep them away from your kids!
