What Up With That? (Random Questions)

1) If Konrad Curze wanted to ensure Vulkan wouldn't recover from his attempts on torturing and/or trying to kill him, why not throw him into a black hole or star, like the Sun, where he would be grounded by an immense amount of gravity and/or extreme energy that he would be torn to shreds/disintegrated over and over again for millions, billions, or an infinite amount of time when accounting for black holes stopping the fourth dimension? What up with that?

2) If the Emperor planned to use the Webway as a way for the Imperium to move around the galaxy to avoid contact with the forces of Chaos, wouldn't he still have a problem with the human race becoming psykers, catching the eye of the Chaos Gods? The Dark Eldar/Drukari are all psykers, but choose not to practice any of it for fear of the repercussions associated with Slaanesh, who is on their tail already. What up with that?

3) Where on earth are the all the Imperium's Primarchs? There has only been one Primarch that in action at this time; Roboute Guilliman. Vulkan went on a trip to the gas station to pick up some cigarettes and never came home, Corvus Corax catapulted himself into the Eye of Terror, Lion El'Jonson is asleep in the center of the Rock, Jaghatai Khan is somewhere riding around in the Webway on his hoverscooter, Leman Russ decided to take a handful of elite Space Wolves and go hunt some Chaos, with only the elite returning and Leman Russ' armor had been found. The Imperium would be in better shape if they had more competent generals/leaders come into play. They could be doing so much more instead of self-isolation/self-imposed exile. What up with that?

4) What happened to the two missing Primarchs and their Legions? It can't be because they were failed experiments, because we know that Angron and the Butcher's Nails did irreparable damage to him and was going to die. Magnus' Thousand Sons were on the edge of horrible mutations and was only saved through sacrificing his eye to an 'unknown entity'. The Emperor's Children were barely a 'Legion' due to the malfunctions of their geneseed. The two missing Primarchs and their Legions participated in the Great Crusade, so they couldn't be failed experiments. And what could be worse than turning to Chaos like the others did and not get redacted? What up with that?

5) Do the Chaos Gods (i.e. Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle, Slaanesh) operate in other galaxies via the Immaterium/Warp, or are there another set of Chaos Gods (similar, but not the same) that do so? If Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle and Slaanesh have a monopoly on the entire Immaterium/Warp, why is our galaxy that damn important that they are struggling to conquer the Milky Way Galaxy. Can't they just focus their attention to another galaxy and get juiced and then come back to our galaxy and curb-stomp everything that is in their way? What up with that?

6) If Orikan the Diviner is able to go back in time and redo events, why did he not try to intervene/stop the 13th Black Crusade from breaching through the Eye of Terror and destroy Cadia? Couldn't he just go back in time and tell the Necrons to activate the pylons earlier and seal the Eye of Terror or at least diminish the size of it? What up with that?

And with that all said, I humbly await your answers!

What Up With That? (Random Questions)

1) Because he's a psychopath and wanted to actually see him die. Besides which, throwing him into a black hole technically slows time as you fall; there's an argument he never actually dies and you can't get him back to try again.

2) But the webway does provide shelter. A properly 'secure' webway provides some protection from chaos - which is why the Drukhari's ancestors hid there. The webway was part of the plan, not the whole plan, giving him a safe place for the psychic species to develop and removing reliance on really dangerous warp engines.

3) Various reasons in each case. Gulliman and Dorn were doing their job and both were 'killed in action'. Khan's pursuit of the eldar was again, him chasing off people who'd attacked his dad's imperium. Vulkan and Corax both essentially lost faith in the Imperium, and Corax because of shame at what he'd done to his legion; it was essentially "suicide by eye of terra". Russ, if you read his novella, actually left looking for Johnson, so it's ironic that Johnson is in the rock....but again, like Gulliman, was entombed there after being 'killed'.

4) The biggest thing in the Horus Heresy we know little about was the Rangdan Xenocides. The 2nd and 11th were definitely there, and it's quite possible were destroyed there. It might well be a case not so much of the Emperor erasing the 2nd and 11th legions as trying to make sure any reference to the now-extinct* Slaugth in any imperial history was erased.

5) No idea. Given the immense distances, they may not be able to. Maybe there is no life as we know it outside the galaxy.

6) Because if he could have, logically he would have. Therefore he can't. The exact mechanics of time travel are ill-explained in the 40k universe, but I would bet that trying to mess around with causality in the chaos gods back yard to undo something they've spent 10,000 years working towards is not going to work.

* Spoiler: not extinct.

I think the answer to 6 is that that would spoil the story a bit. While Necrons technically cannot lose at this point, it's very bad writing if everything was just Chaos does X but the Necrons saw it before and planned ahead.

If we are to believe that, coupled with other legions having similar troubles, why weren't they redacted as well? If it doesn't have to do with genetic experiments gone wrong, then you would look at the next possible cause: rogue/heretical/chaos legions/primarchs. The same question would be asked, well if they did rebel against the Imperium, why weren't the other traitor legions in the Horus Heresy redacted as well? ADB spoke to me and said that they had no explanation on why they disappeared, but these are the only two answers and it doesn't make sense on why one legion would be redacted, while another goes public. Then again, this is a fictional storyline, so I have to suspend my sense of reason and logic to make the story work.
What Up With That? (Random Questions)

They did something unforgivable when the history of the Imperium was being written. I think the bits of fiction in rulebooks where you see “redacted” about those two chapters and then “excommunicate traitoris” for the other nine with the big =I= stamped on it is just meant to look like an internal document. There is just no fiction yet about the two lost primarchs and their legions.

Your question is a good one and one that’s been asked for years, it’s a bit WTF gap in the story. I always wondered if two primarchs hated one another enough to actually kill each other and that’s how two legions were lost. I thought it would be fitting for two primarchs to land on the same planet, become rivals, and eventually settle their score during that Grand Crusade. /shrug

The thing I keep wondering is if the Emperor himself scattered the primarchs to see who sank and who swam. The fiction says they were taken from him but who takes anything as important as the Emperor’s sons without him noticing?

A couple of word bearer space marines, if I remember right. It's a rather convoluted story - not least because it doesn't happen in chronological order. See the first heretic for details

As to eliminating the missing primarchs, remember that there's an important difference: the two missing primarchs went missing (we assume) during the crusade, a long way from terra. The excommunicate traitoris invaded every important imperial world you care to name, and the emperor and malcador are gone so there isn't anyone with the same unquestionable authority to erase whole chunks of history from EVERYONE'S records, mechanicum, inquisition, etc.

As I say, a big thing to look at is the Rangdan Xenocides, because it's the one reference in any background to entire space marine legions being destroyed and we know the 2nd and 11th were there. Whether the destruction came from the slaugth or the wolves is a different matter, but that was almost certainly the battlefield where it happened.
