Void Shields

We all know how Void Shields work. It somehow disperses the impact or explosive energy into the warp, but does it have an effect on, or in the warp?

Does the energy gets dispersed into the whole warp, leaving no apparent trace? Or cause a minor disturbance a small area in the warp? Is it a random explosion occurring somewhere in the warp?

Given that Void shields can be overloaded, and that it's a matter of their generators not exploding unlike power shields, I'd imagine it has very little effect in the warp. Otherwise we'd hear more about how operating them results in warp rifts, daemonic incursions, and mutation.

Void Shields

Technical details on everything is scarce. GW cannot figure out basic technical stuff and their new models are so bad that it is widely mocked by the fans.

In lore void shields are explained that nobody knows fully how they work. Yet, from my impression, void shields after being hit by high enough energy vector, creates a miniscule warp rift which allows incoming energy to get through the warp. These mini warp rifts are not of your usual variety. They are like Imperial ship warp travel rifts, but on microscopic scale. Shield generator breaks bonds of reality and open miniscule hole in fabric of space linking it to the warp. Since this hole in reality was created at the point where shield had detected huge incoming energy, this energy instead just falls naturally into unreality where it probably just murders fucktons of demons.

This theory is sound, because in fluff, high impact weapons are bad at overloading Titan void shields. Titan hunters like Shadowsworn do not usually fire at the Titan. It keeps its fire until Titan's shields are down and it uses its immense high impact, high armor piercing single shot to blow straight through its armor. If Void Shield would operate on absorbing maximum amount of X energy per Y time then Imperial standard Titan killing tactic would be finding as many high impact, single shot weapons as possible and just focusing fire and instantly killing Titans.Yet, instead titan hunter teams often are seen first in absolutely spraying titan with firepower which at first glance is utterly negligible. It is artillery fire, autocannon fire, battlecannons, multilasers. None of these weapons would pose serious threat to Titan's armor. Yet, in lore it had be seen that these weapons are quite efficient in overloading titan's shields. This is because void shield operates by opening a warp rift and maintaining or not for specific period of time. Usually even a warp rift with lifespan of miliseconds would be enough to absorb all incoming energy from laser, shell or explosive. If void shield operates by having to spend energy in tearing the reality asunder, it would explain why in the lore Vulcan Mega Bolter are the best Titan shield puncher. It just sprays Titan's shield with so many high impact strikes that Titan's shield just overloads by having to create thousands of warp rifts within miliseconds and thus, it collapses upon itself and needs to be restarted.

Void Shields

Good question, I looked this up awhile back when I started AT.
https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Void_Shield
https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Void_shield

There are references at the bottom but it was my understanding that incoming attacks are dissipated into the warp and that the shield itself is sorta like a split in reality. As many attacks come in the generator pushes to maintain the envelope between us and the warp and when the envelope becomes over saturated the system blows out the shield.

That is why for example in BFG, bomber attacks against ships go straight through shields (although perhaps it is the bombers themselves that go through the shields and attack from within the shields) and why torpedoes also ignore shields. It is why Titans can close into close combat range without triggering the shields.

Void Shields

Indeed, yesterday I had figured out how best to defeat enemy Titans in equally ridiculously OP W40k fashion. You need to apply armor digging drop pod variants which would be based on a ground on some massive vehicle which would transport them. Lets say a super heavy vehicle has 12 dropods. When enemy titan of true value is sighted like Imperator or Warlord, these vehicles are brought to an area of their operation. When those titans are isolated or contested, these vehicles come together to launch concentrated dropod assault on a titan. These dropods would speed with hypersonic velocity horizontally and will attach itself to Titan's hide. Then they will start digging through their armor. When they will be done, some of them will release viruses/gasses/explosives into Titan's interior. Other drop pods will release soldiers into Titan's innards and this is how I could gut the Titan from inside out while completely ignoring his own prowess

The only issue is, that I can't think anything terrible enough in W40k to put in those dropods. Titans are protected by thousands of Skitarii and other Adeptus Mechanicus robots. It is not a matter of being unable to kill them. It is an issue, because you will be releasing soldiers by the hundreds into a Titan while there are thousands entrenched Adeptus Mechanicus troops there. I need something so terrible that it could survive this rough insertion. Chaos Terminators could do this, but they are too rare. Demons are generally too weak. It is a real difficulty in finding suitably terrible things in W40k for such tasks.

To me this seems just such W40k'ish idea that I'm proud for coming up with it.

It's also noted that the displacement effect (a) occurs at a reasonable radius from the shielded unit and (b) is triggered in part by velocity and energy density.

This is why void shields don't stop melee attacks (for titans) and stuff like torpedoes and ramming (for ships) and why attacking infantry can walk through a void perimeter. The energy density is why a volcano cannon blast will trigger the shield but daylight won't so you can still see and breath from inside.
