Ryza ruins unpopular?

I've noticed all the webstores in my country that otherwise sell terrain as quick as they stock them aren't moving any Ryza ruins. I get that they're "simple" but they fill a void that IMO needed filling for a while ever since those "corner ruins" (dunno what they were called) that were around in 3rd edition got scrapped. I know 8th terrain rules are probably partly to blame, but it's still surprising since they have such a unique aesthetic and are actual buildings, unlike the other unpopular terrain; sector mechanicus.

I for one am getting tired of the gothic stuff. I still like them, but I just need a little variation. The Ryza ruins feel like they represent the derelict colony atmosphere for the first time. Whereas with the sector imperialis stuff, at some point you gotta ask yourself, "wait, so how many Administratums are in this block of the city? 8? And what's with the 5 basilicanums?" Ryza ruins are just habs. You can have a 1000 of them on the table and 4th wall is still intact.

Do you use them? If not, why?

Re:Ryza ruins unpopular?

You had to get that kill team box to get the solid ryza building and more traditional "ruins". As other have pointed out, scatter terrain/low cover isn't that useful in 8th because of the lack of terrain rules, so it's basically big los blocking terrain with no gaps or keyholes/windows or bust. I completely agree on the aesthetic front that they look really good painted up, but without the kill team killzone box there really isn't enough variance to fill a table. One thing that gets missed, partly gw's fault for how they're packagae/market is that the ork mek workshop is based off the ryza terrain and meshes perfectly with it, you can make a very un-orky civilian looking scrapyard pretty easily by hiding a couple glyphs. I think they need to do another reboxing where they mix and match the full building and the mek shop, they also could include a sprue of the plasma pipes because they actually mesh really well with the ryza ruins. It seems like on the aos side the azerite ruins seem to get more love, they're also arguably better for 8th because they block more los and some of the kits can do multiple floors.

Great for all the non-40K games that GW makes. For 40K? It doesn't really do anything but add some ambiance to the table. If you make some house rules for it, it's not too bad. Such as "if you draw lines of sight through these ruins, you are -1 to hit". Even that is a bit iffy and can really be abused with other to hit modifiers.

It is OK set for some extra terrain, but it is massively annoying that they do not sell all the Ryza type sprues separately or at all. The long wall section from the Moonbase Klaisus is a nice loss blocker and the intact building from the Sector Fronteris is a good terrain piece.
