Rogue Trader Narrative for Armies on parade 2020

Hey all, as per my armies on parade project log, I am doing a narrative behind my board, I love making up and exploring the universe so i thought I would share it with you guys.
Just a warning though, I am a hobbyist, I do not know the lore like the back of my hand, and this story is based on my interpretation of the universe and how i believe things to work so please do not look for faults and enjoy it as it
here goes:

The emergency lumens lit the room in a dim red light, Enginseer Voss was not sure what was better; no light at all or the scarce light being projected forth by the sparsely positioned emergency lumen stations. Both had their negatives, the low light created more shadows than he was comfortable with, but then looking at one with his bionic eye would leave him temporarily blinded as his optics quickly adjusted to the influx of light. By the God of Mars he thought, how this ship was even allowed to leave the dockyard.
His thoughts were interrupted as the lights suddenly extinguished casting him into complete darkness, there was a loud creaking noise followed by a tremendous thud as what he can only imagine was a large part of the upper ship being moved against it's will. The vox link to the Rogue trader who had brought him to this Emperor forsaken vessel suddenly filled with static and the sounds of one of the entourage crackled over it, "we've uncovered the main power conduit, it took damage from the impact but we should have the main lighting restored imminently" and with that, the static died down and Voss switched to his bionic eye.
He looked around the open space around him, clearly a loading bay or storage area from the looks of it. Pallets of equipment, barrels of promethium and strange storage boxes which he had not seen since Vaxis Prime. These he assumed were why they were here; they had proved quite the valuable asset to bribe the local gangers when things didn't quite go to plan. Voss thought for a moment, "if it wasn't for these I am sure that Voidsman Deus would have certainly been killed". These boxes contained Chem-lances. A powerful mining explosive that when ignited produced a sharp narrow beam of purple energy, it could could through the hardest rock and was even rumoured to be able to cut through Plasteel. He didn't want to imagine what the local gangs would want with such equipment, but they allowed him to get off that planet. The medicae on-board the Balur's Vex had made short work of the injuries he had sustained planet-side, and this is how he had ended up with his bionic eye. He was thankful for it as he began to move around the open space, his vision reaching out to about the lengths of two battle tanks, anything beyond was a crackle of blue light as the receptors failed to pick up any heat signature.
That's when he saw it; a strong dot of purple glaring heat, in the corner of his vision. He turned so the intense heat signature was directly ahead of him, as he did so the vox crackled wildly into life, almost deafening him.
"Repeat Alpha, this is Voss, I cannot understand you". The heavy static continued to come through his link. He stopped advancing to address the issue of communications; he certainly did not want to be left behind on ship he was not familiar with. "Why is nothing ever simple in these" he hesitated as if pained to use the word "simple, recovery missions".
Suddenly he heard footsteps. He raised his pistol and scanned it in the direction of the noise. "throne! There was meant to be no one down here, the scans showed no signs of" his thoughts broken as the deafening report of a boltgun came into life. The strong thud of shells embedding themselves in the armoured walls could be heard as someone behind him was reciting the litany of battle. Laslo. It had to be, for she was the only person in the party armed with such a magnificent weapon. He spun around to see Inquisitor Laslo letting off rounds with her bolter in the direction he had just been staring, what had she seen? And why couldn't he see it? "Whats wrong my dear Voss" she said in her usual sarcastic tone, "scared of the dark? I didn't think your Omnissiah would have neglected you so". He dismissed the comments as he strained to see what she was evening targeting. A shrill shriek filled the air as a shell found its mark. "One less heretic for you to hide from Enginseer" she snapped, "We wouldn't want you to loose that other eye of yours now would we?". As soon as the peace had been restored the main lumen strips crackled into life, bathing them both in light. For the first time Voss could truly inspect the cargo bay he had been directed to. He turned to face where this strange heat source came from, and as he turned he saw something incredible, before he could say anything Laslo cut him off; "By the Emperor, what is that?".
