painting copper.

I want my wraiths to look a little like these, especially the copper carapaces.

https://flic.kr/p/2iSsN79

https://flic.kr/p/2iSrcK9

I'm thinking I have some copper and dark bronze paint, maybe a copper base and a flesh wash to darken it and a drybrush of maybe some gold or brass could mostly replicate this. Any advice? Not really painted anything larger in copper before, and this looks good.

well what id do is:

do them tin bitz (or whatever the new equivalent is) first.
then edge highlight AND lightly drybrush with 50/50 tinbitz/balthazar(?) gold.

wash with 70/30 agrax/nuln oil mixed wash.

-optional but worth it - add some nikalith?(whatever) oxide into some recesses and around boltheads or as runs as a verdegris effect.

repeat previous mixed edge highlight ONLY (no more drybrush)

finer highlight of just balthazar gold.

done.

son!

If you look at old bronze or copper, you will find that it is often quite matte. so I'd start with a matte black/brown base. for example, mix black with mournfang brown. use this an all over base tone for depth. over this, apply your dark bronze metallic (I like warplock bronze as it it very dark). you could stipple it for a worn patina effect. then stipple up to your bass/copper tones.if you want to add a small touch of a gold, I'd mix it with the copper and use it on the edges.

This is how I do all my metallics when I'm using a True metallic effect.
