Best Main Necron players

Hello,

I am new to the forum and 40k. I bought the indomitus set and it worked out great because both the necrons and marines turned out to be the armies and lore that interested me the most. Lucky also that they are all getting new codexes soon.

Does anyone know really good main necron players? I just have a hard time finding dudes who play necrons well and post battle reports or stream.

There are dime a dozen good marine players but I want to find some good necron examples.

Then I found out they suck in 8th so I was glad that I didn't continue building them.

However I did finish the Marine half and already built two war suits and 2 GW terrain packs since that army does really appeal to me.
Re:Best Main Necron players

This is somewhat disheartening, I just got into the hobby recently and have a SM Army I regret buying, and the beginnings of a great WAGH that seems to be middling at best (maybe new Codex fixes that?). As it stands the Necrons are one of the only other factions that truly interest me but I hate the idea of building 2 armies that will struggle to be competitive haha. Not that I really care about winning but I enjoy making life difficult for my enemies.

Best Main Necron players

In games like 40K one of the skills that will most innpact your chances of winning is how good you are at picking your army.

If we leave the sphere of 40K and go to TCG and CCG we see it much more. In some games it is easy to identefy the best decks, in some it is hard. The best examples it beeing hard is when there is a time preasure on the selection. Lots of magic teams would have four weeks to come up with the best new deck after a sett droped. Before the pro tour tourbement of that sett. Those teams would include players who where good deckbuilders, but not nesaseraly great players. Of course pro tours included a limited draft selection that test some other skills.

Back to 40K. When necrons are in a bad place the competative crowd shuns away from it. Identefying what the best armies in 40K are is not hard, comparez to some tcg's. Particularly when the meta it is slow pacing (one codex every 2 months.)

There is one group of competative players that will gravitate towards 'bad' armies. In the MTG crowd they are called brewers. You also have 'spike' a very competetive type player in the archtypes in players. In Bartles (primetive) Taxonomy of player types he calls them explore and achievers respectivly. If you get a crossbreed of brewer/spike or explorer/achiever they could theoretically go through all the trouble of finding a good necron list that is really really good.

So when you ask if there are any good necron players you are already exluding a large pool of the potensial competetive players that are looking for an easier time. Or are you simply looking for the best player among the people who play necrons (and is in the public eye. Can be the best necron player does not even play outside of the local gaming store.)

Tabletop tactics did a Necron review and pointed out one major reason Necrons struggle competitively and it has to do with the army wide reanimation protocols. Simply put necron units base cost takes into account reanimation yet the rule itself seldom is used competitively because a good opponent knows how much damage their units can do and then takes steps to wipe out entire units and thus deny reanimation protocols.

It would be different if the game didn’t already encourage players to wipe out entire units, as such RP is a rule that only comes into play when a necron player rolls “hot” with their saves, or their opponents dice roll really statistically poor.

Hopefully the new book allows for necrons to have a more impactful army wide rule.
