Painting Camos: the Leman Russ Conundrum and some bases

Hi guys,

(mods i believe this is the correct place for this thread, if not i will move it).

so some help would be appreciated from other expereinces. Firstly been collecting for 20 odds years however i have always sucked at painting . Shakey hands mixed with impatience hasn't helped me painting. So after not really painting but collecting for the past 20years on and off i have decided to get my steadily progressing DKOK .

So my issue with the camo is that i don't own a airbrush and after painting this Leman russ for what seemed an eternity it looks good from 3 foot or 1 meter away but me being a head perfectionist i want it to look proper. This was an attempt of urban camo, however the vehicle was primed black, then painted thinly with grey seer, then finished with Vallejo electric blue then finished with a slighly darker blue. the colours in this pattern was achieved through using 6mm and 3mm masking tape.

Any help you guys can provide me some tips or tricks to nail this. I plan on only having this tank done in this way then depending on what i can figure out i may get a airbrush kit from ebay (Link below).

Spoiler:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Switzer-Double-Action-Airbrush-Kit-Compressor-With-Tank-AS186-Paint-Nail-Tatoo/132166170957?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Seccondly with the bases i was wondering if there was anything else which i could do to make them pop. The corruption bases were a flop imo but i think the others came out. I plan on making my DKOK a mixture of different environments, however im struggling with comming up with ideas relating to urban, can anyone suggest a way to get the right theme.

Two things;
1, do you actualy want a blue/grey/dark grey pattern and want to improve it, or are you seeking other patterns/colours?
2; what kind or urban style do you want, there are lots of them on the web, ready for you to be inspired from.
Not got much specific advice for you but this sort of thing is very common in scale modelling (i.e. Historical tanks and the like) rather than wargaming. It's a subtle distinction but a very different community with ideas all of their own.

Look up painting scale model camo and you should find a lot of very helpful stuff that you might not hear within wargaming communities.

I think the camo scheme is almost there but the disruptive pattern needs to overlap plate edges a bit more. It's just a bit too clustered in the middle of plates in my opinion. In terms of making it pop maybe just a dry brush over the blue to bring out some highlights on the main colour.

The left one here was just with a brush and the right was with an airbrush, so airbrushed are not necessarily where it's at for camo. I do need more control practice and maybe a stencil to help with the edging.
