HQ + the 3 acolyte squads, plus up to 3 more elites choices. So you could take 3 monkeys too if you wanted, for example.

A single Vanguard (led by the inquisitor) can have up to 6 Elite slots, so 36 total acolytes if you chose not to take any other elite unit. I mean, I guess if you only play narrative missions, those restrictions don't apply. Probably for the best. This is what I do, use the Imperial Guard codex to represent my Inquisitor’s retinue. Infantry Squads, Veteran Squads, Special Weapon Squads, etc... as well as other units all make decent Inquisitor retinue material. Especially when modelled to look like a rag tag force rather than an army.
