Is the Castellan Knight back? A quantitative analysis of Imperial knights.

Greetings fellow players,

A full Imperial Knight list went top 4 at the Kent wargame GT recently. While there was no Castellan Knight in this specific top 4 list, the Imperial knight seems to still have potential in 9th edition. In my analysis, the 8th edition House Raven Castellan knight combo performed very well, reaching a 231% value. (Dominus analysis: https://youtu.be/B_vAQeednhU)

Imperial knight units were analysed using predefined and quantified metrics in my new YouTube channel. The aim of the videos is to answer if a unit is worth its points. It gives an overall value of the unit capacity by comparing offensive potential to its defensive cost. A short analysis is also added in the videos to assess the impact of force multiplier on a possibly competitive unit.

Here is an overview of the results for Imperial knights. All units of 40k will be processed using the same methodology.

Results:
Helverin (115%)
Warglaive (185%)
Castellan (114%)
Valiant (110%)
Crusader (96%)
Errant (95%)
Gallant (103%)
Palladin (85%)
Preceptor (107%)
Warden (96%)

Armiger analysis: https://youtu.be/Ip6QbXy85IQ
Questori analysis: https://youtu.be/asrIUIWgiIU

Methodology:
The assessment is done by comparing offensive output by its defensive cost. The methodology allows analysis for all types of units with the exception of characters. Factors that were considered the most predictive and quantified in the analysis are:

- Anti-tank shooting
- Anti-personnel shooting
- Anti-tank melee
- Anti-personnel melee
- Fortitude
- Mobility

More details on the methodology can be found in this video: https://youtu.be/Xm0lB6f4K9Y

Craftworld, Primaris (old codex) and Chaos space Marines, Astra militarum and Drukhari quantitative breakdown are already online. Orks will be published next. The new codex of the Space marines is being assessed at this moment. Great data incoming.

I invite you to follow my channel!

Avec respect,

Simon

The Armigers do seem pretty slick for the points. I ran 3 with my admech in 8th and had a lot of fun. In 9th I'm thinking of trying them with custom traits and seeing how they do.

You can give them reroll one hit each phase (shoot, overwatch, melee) and then give them the trait where once they're below half wounds, they get +1 to hit in melee and an additional attack. That plus admech house so they regen a wound a turn and the potential to charge 3 into the same unit to trigger pack hunters, and they seem pretty vicious for 160pts with carapace melta. Probably not the most competitive ever but looks fun at least. They're fast, can shoot, and fight in melee for not too much points. Really the only thing I don't like is the d3 melta cannon shots.
