Question-good height for 40k fortress walls?

I find myself with a surplus of foam core and a Fortress Precinct in need of walls.

I'm thinking of something like these by Panic:

What's a good height and depth?

4" tall with a 1" parapet and 3" deep walkway? Heavy weapon squads are about 2.5" wide IIRC so the walkway has to be pretty deep.

First thing to consider is whether you want the walls to mesh with GW plastic terrain, and do that with or without additional stairs, ramps or ladders. The old Cities of Death tiles are 3" tall, the Shrine of the Aquila is twice that, and the latest building tiles are I believe 5" talk.

My primary concern, having played with a number of walls before, would be to make them as low as possible and only as tall as necessary to allow you to see and reach over them reasonably well.

In terms of background I'd say a precinct primarily worries about revolts and so the walls only need to be so tall as to stop normal people for the most part, Ogryns at worst from scaling them. I'd say 3" with a 1" parapet on top should be OK. 4" plus parapet as you suggest wouldn't be a problem either. I wouldn't go taller than that, though. I've played a lot of games with the Imperial bastion, and a common complaint with it was that it was so tall (and with a tall parapet to make matters worse) that TLOS drawing to anywhere close to the base of it was simply impossible. If this is a consideration to you, you should keep the height as low as possible.

Depth should be at least 40mm to enable you to comfortably place those newfangled 32mm bases, or if you think you will often see 40mm bases models on top, 45mm.

Consider fixed emplacements for heavy weapons on 60mm bases instead of making the whole thing wide enough to fit them anywhere. It may not be as flexible, but it's certainly a way to provide some spots for such models. In addition, it will give your wall a more interesting shape than long, tall and even.
