"Rounds" vs. "Spotters" paint brushes

I need to refresh my ages old brushes, and was looking at what some of my hero's use. Squidmar (prior to coming out with his own brushes) favored the Raphael 8404 series, a typical "Rounds" series of brushes, very similar to Rosemary Series 33. I thought it was interesting that Angel Giraldez favors the much shorter Artist Opus M series, which seems to be basically an overprice "Spotter", akin to Rosemary's Series 323.

Any thoughts on the Rounds vs. Spotters thing?

"Rounds" vs. "Spotters" paint brushes

Personally, and its more an ability thing, I've taken a liking to the Rosemary 323 brushes because I'm finding the longer length bristles to be harder to control, ie they flex more and dont really go where I want them to.

It's a purely personal choice, I also use the Rosemary 66 Filberts for base coating, so my only advice is try some different brushes and see how they work for you.

"Rounds" vs. "Spotters" paint brushes

Brushes are a very personal thing. The only qualification for a good brush is one that gets you to put paint on your models!

That said I tend to favour the more traditional rounds. They require steadier hands and better brush control but offer a deeper belly for holding more paint and with practice can cover everything from a very thin line to a large area. I like their flexibility.

The main downside of a shorter tuft is that it's harder to avoid getting paint up in the ferrule. Spotters need to be cleaned extra well after use.

"Rounds" vs. "Spotters" paint brushes

I personally don't really care about which specific brushes I use. But that might also be because I'm far from a good painter and the brush really isn't where I will see any difference (except when the end is split. Or looks more like a palm tree in some cases).
