How are Skitarii transported to a warzone

Hi,

this is most likely a trivial question, but I don't posess the AdMech Codex and am not very firm with their background:
Does the Adeptus Mechanicus have their own transports to ship around their Skitarii Legions between planets or do they hitch a ride with the Navy like the Imperial Guard regiments? And if they use their own ships, are these being attached to Navy convoys for protection or do they operate completely alone?

More specifically: would it be uncommon for Skitarii from a Forgeworld and Guardsmen from a Civilized world in the same system to travel on the same transport or at least in the same flotilla?

And when they are on world: are AdMech and Imperial Guard (in the fluff) picky regarding who hitches a ride in a transport or would it be completely normal that some Skitarii are redeployed by a Guard Chimera or vice versa some Guardsman jump in a Dunerider, that is free because the Skitarii it transported are dead? All givven that the AdMech and IG forces in the battlezone are allied and have overlapping tactical objectives.

How are Skitarii transported to a warzone

The AdMech have their own ships, and they could be part of a larger fleet. The Forge of Mars trilogy has Guard regiments assigned to an AdMech battleship - and mentions the logistical problems that creates.

Generally they'll keep to their own transports, but they'll always be exceptions. Brutal Kunnin' has Orks looting & operating Duneriders, so Guard should be able to work them.

Imperial navy ordinarily handles transport of Guard regiments. However, Admech can be attached to a crusade fleet and guard regiments can be attached to an explorator fleet so it's definitely a thing that happens. The AdMech also uses ships that are the same pattern as the navy. In a pinch, when the Guard need to be redeployed, they can commission/commadeer private vessels or call in favours from allies.

There would have to be reasons. The Imperial armed forces have operated separately for 10,000 years. Different regiments of regular Imperial Guard have difficulty understanding each other's way of war. Many of the weapons and equipment of the skitarri are radioactive and long term exposure could sicken or kill the guardsmen. The Cult Mechanicus guards its mysteries from the uninitiated and might be wary of close co-operation.

There are also good reasons why the two forces might work more closely. An Imperial guard commander would be foolish to refuse a request from his Admech support- maybe they need a chimera for an amphibious insertion across waters the Duneriders cannot handle and the fliers cant risk. Or perhaps a company or Guard get isolated with adeptus mechanicus during a withdrawal and are forced to pool resources and share transports to survive.
