Is One Infernal Household Knight a possible counter to Drukhari?

So, Drukhari has scary dark lances. They hit hard in close combat and they are super mobile.

But with titan hunter secondary now only giving up 4 VP, fielding just 1 knight seems interesting.

I was thinking of what Drukhari can possibly do if one single knight stromps onto a midfield objective on turn 1 and dares the whole army to do something. The answer is other than popping off whatever dark lances it has at the knight., not a lot. And here comes the interesting part. Dark lances are all str 8. Infernal chaos knights can take d3 MW to raise their toughness to 9. And of course, they can also spend just 1 CP to rotate their ion shields to a 4++.

Drukhai hate to get out of their transports on turn 1. The big melee attack usually only happens in turn 2 when their power from pain gives them advance and charge. So, give the infernal knight warlord trait of infernal quest (obsec 10 models). Stomp him onto the midfield with guns blazing and I think there is a high chance Druhari has to give up that objective. Even without the T9, they only have a 50% chance of wounding and then you have 50% chance to save on the invul. With a T9, it will be even less because now they need 5s to wound. A knight has 24 wounds, even if a Dark Lance or two slips through, a knight can take that damage and continue on.

And the presence of the knight in the midboard creates a sort of problem. Its threat range is huge, and a reaper chainsword will cleave through a raider or ravager pretty easily. Two wounds through at 2s to wound and the raider or ravager is toast. An avenger gratling cannon is ideal for killing even raiders because it is strength 6. So it still wounds a raider on 4s, and every shot through is 2 damage. And even from turn 2 onwards, I think most of the melee output of Drukhari won't do much on a T9 knight, they can't even lock him in battle because he can step away over them, and keep going.

One knight with a melta gun, twin icarus autocannon, avenger gatling cannon with heavy flamer and reaper chainsword has a ton of ranged firepower good at killing raiders and the Reaper Chainsword itself that also cleaves through raiders like butter. And the whole package costs 470 points. If it can't be brought down with dark lances, it can keep killing raiders and ravagers until the point the Drukhari player has no more or too few dark lances and then after that, it essentially can't be killed anymore. So 470 points to potentially hunt and kill all of the Drukhari vehicles plus whatever else it kills along the way? Seems like a good deal to me.

I am not saying an all knight army will suddenly be the meta winning list now. But Knight soup might be a possible counter to Drukhari ? What do you all think ?

PS. The knight is not wasted in non-Drukhari matchups. Because it can still bully a midboard objective. And it can easily turn its guns to kill off infantry, while its stomps or Reaper chainsword will still do work in melee. With the meta now more towards melta guns which are Str 8. What applies to darklances also apply to Melta which will also have problems getting through the T9 knights and its 4++ ion shield.

A minor detail but Super-heavy auxiliaries do not gain Household ambitions. You gotta run full super heavy detachment at the cost of 6 CP.

Take a superheavy chaos knight detachment and make the knight despoiler a warlord and now the superheavy is free. The minimum superheavy detachment is 1 knight and 2 wardogs. You will then still have over 1200 points to spend on a patrol or a vanguard detachment.

Are Infernal Household Knights a possible counter to Drukhari?

The short answer is 'kinda'. 'Counter' is a little strong, but Knights of all flavors are actually quite effective against Drukhari. The issue is balancing the punch of Knights (which you need) and holding objectives. Too much punch and the Druks will suicide hold objectives and you won't score till it's too late. Too much holding and you'll just tickle them as they mulch you.

Are Infernal Household Knights a possible counter to Drukhari?

You can give the Infernal knight the Infernal quest warlord trait. By himself, he will be worth 10 models of obsec. That plus whatever he kills on that objective (because he is a character and can heroically intervene). He should be able to own that objective he is on.

For the other objectives, well, that's why I mentioned knight soup and not pure chaos knights. I am sure with over 1200 points left even after getting a superheavy detachment, it should be possible to soup in something decent that can hold your own rear objectives. Deathguard comes to mind. They are very good at sitting on objectives and holding it. 1200 over points of Deathguard terminators and poxwalkers is pretty resilient. For 1200 points, you can get Typhus, 20 blightlord terminators and 40 poxwalkers with points to spare in a Patrol detachment. Pay 1 more CP and you can get a Vanguard detachment and get more elites like a blightspawn or tallyman.
