Vindiecator

Long time hobbiest first time hobby bloggin here. But its good to share right.

I grew up with 80's GW and have painted most of my life. After a recent hiatus I am ready to explore new projects! Which will all be absolutely devoid of GW.

Because after a brief rollercoaster of acquisition disorder I settled on never spending another cent on GW systems.

Oathmark inspired me out of my hiatus and I have started delving into similar and more historic systems and models. Be that WWII, ancients and maybe Napoleonics. All for the love of collecting and painting iconic stuff.

Photos to follow!

Maybe in the future I can even get streaming again :/

Automatically Appended Next Post:

My order from Northstar Games, the first monies I've spent on models for a while. Elf Light Infantry, and that's 30 models! THIRTY. Great nostalgia value for me as they remind me of the original plastic wood elves and Warhammer Fantasy regiment models. luls Classic!

Seems to be a risky pain in the ass at the moment ordering from Ireland. Pain to find decent stockists with the right range of stuff never mind the risk of gakky brexit customs and admins charges from our end. Need to find groovy EU stores. For now Northstargames have such a great range of applicable stuff its hard to resist! Spoiler- I'm writing these thoughts after just ordering some Victrix Romans and more bases.

I should also shout out "Obscurities in Miniature" on youtube for introducing me to all the multipart plastics I didn't know existed.

Minimal clean up and easy assembly (apart from the right bow arms. They do not sit happily anywhere, any decent pose will leave gaps)..wheres my green stuff

The quivers definitely fit smoothly on the contours of the cloaks. I resisted any green stuff sculpting of a strap for the quivers, I was content with filling the arm gaps and the blend for the hoods (they fit perfectly well I just wanted them to look a touch less separated). Some excess green stuff went into blending the bases.

There may be better fillers for this but this is what I had to hand. It seems to be a knack I have to practice even with the handy tool.

While the filler was still pretty soft I attached a couple of rocks, and two sizes of texture, small cat litter granules and sand.

Seriously I love these recessed movement trays. I may be extremely weird but it is strangely rewarding to fit the models into.

When this was dry I wasn't completely satisfied, especially with the movement tray. So I turned to some Vallejo texture. The narrow separation on the movement trays are prone to flaking off most applied texture but the Dark Earth acrylic paste dries rock solid.

Undercoated with Army Painter black and bases drybrushed we are ready to paint! ERK

Meanwhile...

Completely random side project I pulled out a draw filled with 1/72 Bolt Action hopes and dreams.I finally applied transfers to this half arse airbrushed DAK ensemble ready to gloss and try weathering. Were there Rad 6 in north Africa. Highly debatable, but it looks cool!

Hmm are pics too big, is this format annoying.

Re:Vindiecator

Not completely convinced with my colour scheme. It's intended as a nod to the classic Skarloc Woodelf Archers of my youth! Autumnal palette could be varied more. We'll see with further units. I'm waiting for Elf cavalry release

Front and Back mostly base colours and first layer. Not going to town on painting here, just layers and details.

Everything still looks a little dull overall with the dark bases, stronger highlights plus flock and grass will brighten things up I'm sure!

Elves are looking good. Classic and effective paint scheme. Flock and grass would indeed work great for their base. You could even throw in some flowers.
