Ghoul blog: Space Hulk Genestealers

Hello! This is my painting log, hopefully this will record my growth from an okay painter to a good painter.

Current project: Space Hulk Genestealers

I've been in and out of the hobby for a long time, I've got a basic understanding of how to paint and can produce models that I would class as 'battle ready'. I intend to use this blog to push my skills further and produce some models that are above the usual quality seen in wargaming.

In the past I have been an avid Warhammer player and I've previously amassed armies of Orcs and Goblins, Dwarfs, High Elves, Dark Angles, Orks, Tyranids, Lizardmen, and Thousand Sons. I've long since given these away and am starting from a mostly blank slate.

One thing that I did not (and never will) give away, is my 3rd edition Space Hulk! I'm currently stripping the previous, and awful, paint jobs from the models and repainting them will be my first project. I had a few non-hulk genestealers lying around, so I've been relearning how to paint and testing colour schemes on these volunteers.

The first stealer went pretty poorly, but that was the whole point of having some test models.

My brain completely forgot how highlights are supposed to work and there are some areas that just aren't painted. Attempt two went much better, the highlights look much more natural and the skin has some details and looks a lot more interesting. The colours are also much brighter and have achieved the old-school pop that I was aiming for with this scheme.

Finally I took a shot of the two together to appreciate the improvements.

That's all for now, please leave a comment, the whole point of this blog is to improve my painting, and most of you reading this will know more than me on the subject! Cheers!
