Help with flying Bases

So, I just restarted Eldar and I forgot how fragile all of the models tend to be. Particualrly I have a wave serpent that just keeps breaking off the flying base. I have tried magnets, directly gluing the base etc. I just can't keep it from breaking. Any ideas of what to do or if there are thicker flying bases out there that might provide more support?

As a poor teenage back in the day before the internet was as large and accessible as it is now, my solution was to glue 1/4" Screws in place of the acrylic stand and up into the vehicle. I used a nut to control how high the wave serpent/fire prism was hovering. Of course it was an eye sore.

Some people prefer using brass rods for a similar effect but not so obvious.

There are lots of companies that can sell a variety of clear acrylic rods. I would try Amazon and eBay first.

Polycaps from gundam plas-kit works wonders. Break off the thin cylindrical tip off flying bases and he tapered portion of the stem gives it a snug hold. You need to embed the polycap within the model.

I use a 60mm base, with some plasticard cut like an H and fin-like from the side. See picture below.
This grips the rails on the bottom of the chassis and a magnet pair locks it in place.
That permits me to transport the models on a magnetic tray and to remove the base if needed.
