Astra Militarum Squats.

Over the past six or seven years, I have been building up a proxy Astra Militarum army that is based around Squats. I did this by checking the Codexes (as they changed over that length of time), noting the equipment and sculpting miniatures to suit the various entries in the list. Once the sculpting was finished on each miniature, it was sent away, cast up and then returned to me so that I could use them for the army. All of this was covered in my previous topic, here:

https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/731849.page

Now that I have completed the army (by that, I mean the army that I will be displaying), there are a few things that still need to happen to properly finish things:

1. I need to varnish all of the miniatures.
2. I need to add some grass/tufts/flock to all the bases.
3. I need to plan and build a display base for the army.
4. I need to build some sort of protective cover that allows the army to be seen while keeping it safe and relatively dust free.

Here is the army. It is a Company sized army with command, support and three platoons of troops:

For more individual images, check out my previous link above.

This thread will focus on the Cadian/display aspect of my army so the next few posts will likely be about planning/varnishing etc.

Astra Militarum Squats.

For planning purposes, the army consists of the following troops:

1x Company Commander
1x Commissar
1x Company Command Squad (5 troops)
4x Primaris Psyker
2x Advisor Unit (6 troops)
2x Engineseer (10 troops)
1x Ratling Sniper Squad (5 troops)
3x Platoon Command Squad (15 troops)
3x Heavy Weapon Squad (18 troops)
6x Infantry Squad (60 troops)

That's a total of 125 troops that are all mounted on 25mm bases (for ease of display).

I'd like the scenic base to be built so that all of the troops can be seen from the front and that means that there will need to be a "terrace" of some sort. I'd also like it to have a rocky theme that matches the bases of the miniatures but with some fortifications of some sort... maybe a backdrop with a big gate sunk into a rock wall?

It's VERY early days with the planning and I have a number of other projects on the go so this will be a slow burner... however, I have got hold of a Hammerfall Bunker which may (or may not) be useful when deciding on the style of fortifications...

Astra Militarum Squats.

Hell yeah, Inso. I've been along for the ride in the sculpting thread for a long time and I'm excited to see the force take shape and get some finishing touches.

The scenic base being a few steppes outside a fortified base/wall makes a lot of thematic and artistic sense to me.

Will be following with interest!
