Re:Footsore - new Trish Carden Beastmen.

Those look fabulous. Great find, Doc!

I do wish Carden would release her new work in metal, though. Resin's just not my thing, particularly for Oldhammer sculpts.

That said, it's truly a new golden age for chaotic all-animal-type beastmen. These days you could fill out an entire Beastman army with new Oldhammer sculpts and never need to use a single Citadel classic. I can't say that the new work is repetitive nostalgia, either, because the talent and imagination on display in new Oldhammer stuff often goes far beyond that. This thread is Carden's parade, though, so I will refrain from citing other people's work here. Carden's sculpts are certainly among the very best I've seen.

With digital sculpting having otherwise largely taken the field over at many companies and the threat of A.I. sculpting lurking on the horizon, I'm glad "new Oldhammer" has become a niche that classic hand-sculptors can still fill to make a living. It's still tough to beat an exceptional Jes Goodwin sculpt from the golden age (or outside of the Oldhammer style, a great Tom Meier sculpt,) but the best new Oldhammer work comes very close and handily beats many other Citadel classics. I'm happy for Goodwin and Meier, but in a way it's a shame that they got so successful that they stopped hand-sculpting minis long ago.

Anyhow, Carden's snail-guy is my favorite of this bunch, too . . . feels like he's got some Hieronymous Bosch DNA in him. Seriously, I hope someday Carden will consider doing even limited releases in metal for old time's sake.

In the meantime, resin lovers, fill your boots!

Footsore - new Trish Carden Beastmen.

Got mine ordered. Once I’ve dealt with my Heresy Backlog, I’ve a loose intention to push my painting skills. And these lads should prove interesting enough for that.

And I reckon I’ll be back for more HarrowHyrst things. Might even get a fourth cabinet to display non-GW army things.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I’m now wondering if we should have a general Old/Mid Hammer alternatives thread for News & Rumours?

As ever can only speak for myself? But if I don’t recognise the manufacturers name, I’m unlikely to drop into a thread.

So, concept is a single thread where folks can post links and hopefully pics to those serving that particular hobby niche?
