Custom codex

Does anyone have ideas, templates, or examples of a homebrew custom codex? I have a few reasons I want to make one; first, I want to have each of my units wargear and points set to make list-building for a battle a breeze. Second, it would be cool and I can incorporate back story in it.

I just need to figure out how to do artwork. I won't use AI generated crap.

Custom codex

There are many examples of homebrew codices floating around the internet. You can probably find examples from pretty much every edition of 40K.

Not all homebrew codices have artwork. Those that do tend to borrow artwork from other 40K sources. After all making your own artwork is very time consuming and requires certain skills.

I'm not sure what you're looking for in this thread. If you tell us more about what kind of codex you're planning to build (for example which faction) then you might get more specific responses.

Custom codex

I know in the past there have been websites that would generate datasheets/warscrolls, but it’s been forever since I looked for them.

Worth looking into. At least your unit entries can be the right format.

Re:Custom codex

I'm a fan of the <a href="https://linktr.ee/kushana" " target="_new" rel="nofollow">Plague Legion Remnant codex, it emphasises everything I like about the Death Guard while de-emphasising the things I don't. That said I'd only ever use it for modelling inspiration, not as actual rules.

When I was in school I'd make a bunch of homebrew codices, for things like squats and rebel grots and other niche forces, nowadays I find them to be interesting intellectual exercises in rules writing but most people won't ever use them so there's not much point, I tend to write RPG homebrew more these days.

Most homebrew either just takes GW art and reuses it or forgoes it entirely
