I glued several plastic rods to the base of a tea light to keep parts of the polyester batting upright. For example, the flying wheel and the oil drum are each attached to a plastic rod.
For the miniature mount, I used a brass rod for strength, and drilled a hole under the bike to allow me to pop the mini on and off the exploding base as needed.
The trickiest part was hot gluing the batting to the tea light base and flashing toy light part. You have to be REALLY careful pressing the batting to the hot glue on the base so you don't burn your fingers. Also make sure you can access the battery hatch of both so you change the batteries in the future.
I sprayed the poly batting with yellow, then randomly with some red, and finally with a bit of black on the top. I then added some random bits super- glued directly to the the batting. |
