Image Description: This model was an experiment to convert a plastic Cadian into a greatcoat trooper so it can have half a chance of passing as a Steel Legionnaire. Meltaguns aren't currently part of the GW Steel Legion arsenal, thus representing the main incentive for such a conversion. As a first-pass I'm happy with the result, subject to some finer sanding, polishing and tidying up of basing product.
Main Parts used:
- GW Plastic Cadian (5 model push-together set)
- GW Meltaguns (Finecast)
- Pig Iron Kolony Militia Head
The left hand and part of the lasgun stock it held was cut away from the plastic Cadian and inserted into a square notch cut into the stock of the Finecast Meltagun. Minor filling with white putty was required here, as well as removing the butt of the Meltagun.
Greenstuff was used to fill out the wrists of the trooper, and make them seem more like Steel Legion. For this reason, I prefer to use Space Marine weapons for conversions as the bare Cadian hands are too dainty compared to the heavily gloved Steel Legion models.
After grinding down shoulderpads and saddlebags, Greenstuff was used to bulk out the greatcoat, following the existing split in the front of the troopers' tunic. After the greenstuff had set, a rotary grinding tool was used to sand folds and creases into the greatcoat.
