Photographing models

So...I have finished my first Space Marine and want to post a pic of it to get some reactions...but when I tried to take a picture, I couldnt get any kind of detail. The picture kept coming up blurry as a son of a gun.

I am using a digital camera, which is my fiancee's, and I have never used one of them before.

Any advice?

Re:Photographing models

Alright man, I am just a dumb lumberjack. I have been searching the forums ever since I created the topic, but can't find anything that is helping me. All I found was a topic from several months ago that talked about a whole bunch of camera terms that I dont understand. These forums are confusing, the camera is confusing, even my computer confuses me. Painting tiny toy soldiers is simple. This crap is very complex. Everyone one this forum is probably smarter than I am when it comes to this stuff.

If there is a plethora of topics on this subject, then could you kindly direct me to a helpful one? Because I sure as heck cant find it.

Take a box, paint the inside white or cover the sides with white paper, I BELIEVE (i'm not sure) that this is a primitive 'lightbox'. So when you take a picture, you should get some detail (as the flash will reflect and light things up rather than be eaten by empty space or shine glare off a reflective tabletop), also digital cameras are weird, what's the resolution on it? (in DPI)

Re:Photographing models

A few things to remember.

Is it in macro mode?

Remember, how HUGE the pics are , there is no reason or need to put the mini right infront of the camera lense.
Half a feet away atleast , make sure its focused on the mini , not the back ground.
You dont need a light box , just a clear back ground where the camera doesnt get confused when focusing.

Most of all , you need common sense. I dont know how else to put it , but 70% of the bad photo share the same mistake.
Lights lit up only the places it shines on.

You are looking at the minis front , your camera is taking the front , yet 70% of the photo it shows the
light , window , lamp , shinning from the back.

Yes...
