The 32nd Torthorran - Imperial Guard Army Project

Hello all. I only recently joined dakka properly after months of reading the forums. This is my newest project and will be a big on conversions Imperial guard army.

The background of the 32nd Torthorran's is that their homeworld Torthorr is a heavily urbanized planet of hive cities. Human occupation goes back as long as recorded history and the planets main continent is riddled with overlapping hive spire cities whose base go deep underground. In this sprawling environment of the artifical urban surface, manufactories, hab-blocks and sky reaching spires of the wealthy elite. Right down to the depths of the under hive streets and ruins of the lower levels and cave systems. This provides a varied and hazardous environment for any armed force to operate in. As such the Torthorran Guard are well funded and equipped. Having several fully fledged regiments constantly garrisoned in the home system surplus to the annual troop tithes to the imperium. Frequently platoons are deployed across the homeworld when abuhmans/mutants get out of hand in the underhive. So are familiar with urban combat and make extensive use of sniper rifles and sentinel scouts where their agility can be greatly made advantage of in the wreckage and rubble strewn underhive terrain. They are also noted for using resperaitors a lot so as to combat dangerous pollution and low oxygen environments when clearing deep space wrecks and derelicts. All this coupled up with strict squad drills and maneuverability make this guard regiment a good all rounder and it is maybe this flexibility that have gotten them their reputation for reliability from fellow imperial forces.

Well thats the background to my guard army. A solid core of infantry using snipers coupled with light vehicles and anti-armor support. Ive had this plan brewing for a while now and have been gleaning ideas from various sources on the internet. For the base of my men I shall be using Cadian bodies with elysian drop troop respirator helmets. I also plan to add extra armor plating and shoulders to give them a heavy trooper look. For the snipers I am shamelessly borrowing from a technique I found online to make long lasrifles with added power cabling made from guitar strings to a powerpack on the users back.

http://commissar.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=conversion&action=display&thread=2892

(wrong snipers put the right thread link up. )

Heres the list I'm going to model them on.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/271199.page

Most of my plans are for the infantry right now. The extra armor on them will likely be a combination of green stuff and styrene. Plus I'm going to use the forgeworld Chimera heavy bolter turret and a heavy stubber as Ive always liked the look of them. I have some ideas for the sentinels but nothing concrete yet. Also using some of the cadian vehicle crew for my hq unit conversion ( the one with the cybernetic eye and respirator face ).

I shall begin posting pics once all the materials arrive hopefully in the next week or two and this gets rolling. Any extra ideas are always appreciated.
